Montana Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) Tax Credit
Montana’s Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) Tax Credit program offers one of the most generous per-donor education credit opportunities in the country, allowing individual taxpayers and businesses to redirect a substantial portion of their Montana state income taxes directly to approved scholarship organizations funding K-12 students statewide. The program offers 100% dollar-for-dollar tax credits, with individual donors able to contribute up to $200,000 per year and married couples filing jointly able to receive a tax credit of up to $400,000 per year, with unused credits carrying forward for up to three years. Credits are available on a first-come, first-served basis against a statewide annual cap, and pre-approval through the state’s Education Donations Portal is required before claiming the credit — making early action and advance planning with a tax advisor critical to participation. Browse the videos and downloadable flyers below to learn how the Montana SSO credit works, who qualifies, and how to secure your credit before the cap is reached
